To begin the Scald Quest, talk to Fisherman Dory located in Fuchsia City. Fisherman Dory has heard of your fame, thus entrusting you to train a Poliwag into a strong Poliwrath for him to prove your worthiness to own the TM Scald. You also have to raise its happiness value until maximum. Upon completing the quest, you will be given a TM55. Also, you'll then be able to purchase said TM in Department Stores for 5,000.
Talk to an NPC named Fisherman Dory. To get into the location he is in, go to the bottom right of Fuchsia City. There will be 2 houses next to each other - enter the right house. Then, simply use the backdoor to meet up with Fisherman Dory. Fisherman Dory will ask you to train a Poliwag into a Poliwrath. You also have to raise its happiness value until maximum. You will then be given a Poliwag by Fisherman Dory to train with. The Poliwag you received will be stored in your PC if your party is full.
- Focus on raising Poliwhirl's happiness value until maximum, then evolve Poliwhirl into a Poliwrath by applying a Water Stone, or
- Evolve Poliwhirl into a Poliwrath by applying a Water Stone, then focus on raising Poliwrath's happiness value until maximum.
The first choice is more recommended because Poliwrath will not learn any new moves until level 32. Also, as a Poliwrath has a higher base EXP compared to a Poliwhirl, training will be more difficult upon evolution. To raise its happiness value, you can either battle and fainting other Pokemon, or levelling up further. Although not recommended, Soothe Bell can also be applied on Poliwhirl to raise its happiness as well. To check its happiness value, simply set it as your first Pokemon in your party and talk to it.
