Cinnabar Island hosts the seventh Kanto region badge, the Volcano Badge. To get the Volcano Badge, players must defeat the Gym Leader, Blaine. Although Cinnabar Island is cut off to the north and east by water routes, the Cinnabar Tunnel provides a bypass around Route 19, Route 20, and the Seafoam Islands (though not completely), allowing players without the Wind Surfboard to successfully navigate between Cinnabar Island and Fuchsia City.
