Evolution Items can be used to induce evolution on a Pokémon who is compatible with that evolution item. The evolution items disappear when used, even if the Pokémon's evolution was declined when prompted.

When it comes to learning moves, it will only learn the moves that are listed for the evolution. However, an evolved Pokémon is still capable of learning its pre-evolution's moves via Playerdex if it has fulfilled that pre-evolution's level requirement for the move; modifying your Pokémon's attacks will cost 500 PokéMoney multiplied by its level.

GMs or Devs will not revert the evolution if you aren't happy with it.

Evolutionary Stones

Most evolutionary stones can be purchased at the Celadon City Department Store or Goldenrod City Department Store for a price of PokémonDollar.png2,100 PokéMoney. The only evolution stones sold elsewhere are Moon Stones and Sun Stones (locations specified below), which currently sell for PokémonDollar.png10,000 PokéMoney each.

Fire Stone

Locations:

Evolves:

Known Glitches:

  • Doesn't evolve Eevee

Growlithe: Ideally you may want to evolve it at level 56, after it learned its last move in Flare Blitz. Once it evolves, go to the Playerdex and teach it Extremespeed.

Vulpix: After level 37, when it learns flamethrower. Otherwise, after level 54 if you want it to learn Fire Blast.

Water Stone

Locations:

Evolves:

Known Glitches:

Poliwhirl: Either at level 34 so that Poliwrath can learn Submission at level 35, or at level 51 after Poliwhirl has learned Hydro Pump.

Shellder: If you want to learn Spikes and Spike Cannon, evolve it at level 35. Otherwise, evolve it after level 50 (when Shellder learns Ice Beam).

Staryu: If you want Confuse Ray, evolve it at level 32. Otherwise, evolve it after level 46 to enable it to learn Hydro Pump.

Lombre: Ludicolo will not learn any new moves, so don't evolve Lombre until after level 49, which is when it learns Hydro Pump.

Thunderstone

Locations:

Evolves:

Pikachu: Raichu will not learn any new moves, so don't evolve Pikachu until after level 50, which is when it learns Thunder.

Eevee: Raise Eevee to level 50 so that it can learn Last Resort.. After evolving to Jolteon, you may wish to go to the Playerdex to teach it some extra moves.

Leaf Stone

Locations:

Evolves:

Gloom: Since both Gloom and Vileplume learn Petal Dance at level 44, evolve Gloom after level 35 when it learns Moonlight.

Weepinbell: Victreebel will not learn any new moves, so do not evolve Weepinbell until after level 54, which is when it learns Slam.

Exeggcute: If you want Stomp, Egg Bomb and Leafstorm, evolve at level 18. If you want Solarbeam and Psychic, evolve after level 47.

Nuzleaf: Shiftry will not learn any new moves, so do not evolve Nuzleaf until after level 49, which is when it learns Extrasensory.

Moon Stone

Locations:

Evolves:

Nidorina: If you want Body Slam, evolve it at level 22. Otherwise, evolve it after level 53, which is when it learns Crunch.

Nidorino: If you want Thrash and Megahorn, evolve it at level 21. Otherwise, evolve it after level 53, which is when it learns Horn Drill.

Clefairy: Clefable will not learn any new moves, so do not evolve Clefairy until after level 45, which is when it learns Meteor Mash.

Jigglypuff: Wigglytuff will not learn any new moves, so do not evolve Jigglypuff until after level 49, which is when it learns Double Edge.

Skitty: Delcatty will not learn any new moves, so do not evolve Skitty until after level 39, which is when it learns Double Edge.

Sun Stone

Locations:

Evolves:

Known glitches:

  • Currently does not evolve Gloom into Bellossom.

Sunkern: If you want Mega Drain, Endeavor, Synthesis, and Giga Drain, evolve after level 42, which is when it learns Giga Drain. If you want Razor Leaf, Bullet Seed, Petal Dance, and Solar Beam, evolve it at level 12. (Sunkern and Sunflora have nearly identical move sets, but learn different moves at specific levels.)

Held Evolution Items

Due to the lack of ability for Pokémon to hold items in PWO, held items that induced evolution upon trade in the Nintendo games function identically to evolution stones in PWO; you have to select the item from your bag pack and select what Pokémon to use it on when prompted.

These items do not have availability from NPC vendors, but they can be purchased on the Token Store. Additionally, the Dragon Scale and Metal Coats are known to be an occasional drop from Pokémon in the Horsea and Magnemite evolution lines, respectively.
