Fishing

Fishing is the first (and only) skill in Pokémon World Online. The fishing skill allows players to catch various amount of Pokémon with the use of the Old Rod. With the release of the skill, players were no longer allowed to fish wherever they wanted. A level system was introduced, which meant that players had to now gain levels (done by simply finding a Pokémon by fishing, not by battling it) to catch certain Pokémon. It should be noted that hooking Pokémon is not guaranteed, and in fact becomes quite rare depending on where you are fishing. In addition, running into Pokémon while surfing does not increase your fishing experience.

NOTE: Many maps have now been updated to a NEW FISHING LEVEL system:

New Fishing level system:

Fishing level Zero - Magikarp under level 15. Goldeen in Viridian Forest Clearing

Fishing level 1 - All pokémon under lvl 10 bar the exceptions.

Fishing level 5 - All pokémon under lvl 20 bar the exceptions.

Fishing level 10 - All pokémon under lvl 30 bar the exceptions.

Fishing level 20 - All pokémon under lvl 40 bar the exceptions.

Fishing level 30 - All pokémon over lvl 40 bar the exceptions.

Fishing level 30 - Shellder (Any Level)

Fishing level 40 - dratini (Any level)

Add 5 fishing levels for higher evolutions, for example level 25 Seaking would need level 15 fishing skill.

This guide applies to all Kanto maps up to route 27 and all Johto maps up following the progress of the Johto Spawn Testing project. For all other maps in the game, the following guide still applies.

Fishing Experience

Every time a Pokémon is encountered by fishing, fishing experience is granted, which adds up to level up the fishing skill; the fishing experience granted is identical to the base experience of the Pokémon hooked. If a Pokémon manages to break the line upon being fished, approximately 1/3rd of the Pokémon's base experience is granted towards the player's fishing experience.

Magikarp Fishing XP Gained 20 Fishing Level Required 0-5 Description Magikarp is a Water-type Pokémon. Though Magikarp is one of the weakest Pokémon in the game, it evolves into the much more powerful Gyarados at level 20. With the lowest base experience in the game at 20, Magikarp reaches level 100 at approximately 2.47 million experience.
