Route 2 is the final road you travel on before reaching Pewter City. Within it is the exceptionally large Viridian Forest. Route 2 is the first location you are capable of capturing a 2nd stage Pokémon. As well, it is the first location you can capture an Electric-type Pokémon.
Bypassing Viridian Forest
Route 2 offers players with the Thunder Badge of Vermilion City to maneuver to the right of Viridian Forest and go to either Pewter City, Viridian City, or Diglett's Cave. There are 2 sets of NPC's that allow players to do this, one set at the northern end, and one at the southern end.
