The Ruins of Alph are located in Johto. They are to the South-west of Violet City. If you began in Johto, the first entrance to the insides of the Ruins of Alph contain some over-powered NPC's for that early in the game, however if you happen to defeat them, you will gain massive experience. The catchable tall grass Pokemon in this area can only be reached by using the surfboard through one of the entrances from Union Cave.
