Viridian Forest location
Viridian Forest is located here in the Kanto region.
North Exit: Route 2
South Exit: Route 2

Viridian Forest is a forest which lies between Viridian City and Pewter City in the middle of Route 2 with both the north and south entrances of Viridian Forest open to the route. The trees in the forest are so thick that little light gets in, and because of this the forest is full of Bug and Flying-type Pokémon that attract Bug Catchers and other Trainers.

In the bottom left hand corner of the forest, players may start the Viridian Forest Quest, to access the Viridian Forest Clearing, by speaking to an old lady NPC.

Points of Interest

There are few things about Viridian Forest. For one thing, Pikachu is catchable here as a Very Rare. You could try hunting for him while you level your pokemon, but later on (not too much later on) you will be able to go to Power Plant. (He’s still Very Rare there, but easier to catch.)

Most of the NPCs here reset after 24 real-time hours. So that’s more experience than the wild Pokémon encounters for faster leveling.

There is also a mini-quest you can do here for a reward of 3 rep and slightly higher level Pokémon. To do the quest talk to Grandma Louis located west (left) of the entrance. She will tell you to find a Butterfree. If you’re lucky you can just catch a Butterfree, but the easier way to complete this quest is to catch a Caterpie and level it up. (Don’t try catching a metapod. The only move it knows is harden.) Once you have the Butterfree go back to the old lady and she will take you to the Viridian Forest Clearing.
