Happiness also referred to by fans as friendship, is a measurement of how much a Pokémon is attached to its Trainer and enjoys being in their care. It affects the evolution of certain Pokémon, the power of Return and Frustration. Certain events increase a Pokémon's friendship (gaining a level, walking a certain amount of steps) or decrease it (fainting). The Pokemon must be following the trainer to gain happiness. Biking does not increase happiness. Holding Soothe Bell makes the Pokemon gain +1 happiness at every gain.

Happiness : 0 to 99 100 to 199 200 to 255
Event Change
Walking 256 steps +1
Level up +5 +3 +2
Using EV-lowering Berries +10 +5 +2
Fainting a pokemon (only at LVL 100) +1
Fainting -1
Trading Reset to 70

Notes

Berries' happiness gain only applies when you get another point of happiness.
