Charmander is one of six possible starters that players may choose from after leaving Starters Island. To obtain a Charmander as a starter Pokémon, it is necessary to start off in the Kanto region. Charmander is a pure Fire-type Pokémon. At level 16, Charmander evolves into Charmeleon, which evolves into Charizard at level 36. With a Medium Slow experience type, Charmander reaches level 100 at approximately 9.1 million experience.
Players who start off with Charmander will have a difficult time against the first two gym leaders, Brock and Misty, both which are super-effective against Fire-type Pokémon.
